Indonesia and India Seal 15 Agreements During Prabowo-Modi Meeting

President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed on 15 areas of cooperation across strategic sectors, including education, health, energy, culture, the economy, security, and politics. The agreements were the main outcome of a bilateral meeting between President Prabowo and PM Modi at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday. The meeting marked a significant milestone in maintaining the strong and historic relationship between Indonesia and India. “This visit reflects the commitment of both countries to continue advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership through concrete and mutually beneficial cooperation,” President Prabowo stated. Both nations committed to enhancing bilateral trade cooperation by accelerating discussions on the Indonesia-India Trade Agreement and reviewing the upgrading of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement. Indonesia and India also welcomed progress in discussions on a cross-border QR code-based payment system, which is expected to improve transaction efficiency while strengthening financial sector resilience. Furthermore, President Prabowo and PM Modi agreed to strengthen cooperation in energy security through the development of solar power plant projects, technology exchange, and capacity building in nuclear technology. In the health sector, both countries committed to expanding cooperation through capacity building for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers. Educational cooperation was also discussed, including the establishment of an Indian Institute of Management campus in Indonesia and the possible establishment of an Indian Institute of Technology, along with increasing the number of Indonesian students studying in India. “We are confident that these agreements can be implemented promptly to deliver tangible benefits to the people of both countries,” President Prabowo said. The two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation and enhancing security collaboration through the India-Indonesia Security Dialogue. The strategic cooperation agreements include a Protocol Extension of the Memorandum of Understanding on Maritime Safety and Security Cooperation; a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Disaster Management; a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Minerals and Technologies for the Steel Supply Chain; an Implementing Arrangement on Health Workforce Collaboration; and a Letter of Intent for the Conservation and Restoration of the Prambanan Temple Complex in Indonesia. Other agreements cover a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Telecommunications Technologies and Services; a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Medical Products Regulation; a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Agriculture; a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Management and Technology Utilisation in Elections; and a Memorandum of Understanding on Research, Technology, and Innovation Cooperation. Additionally, Indonesia and India signed a Contract for the BrahMos Missile Defence System between BrahMos and the Ministry of Defence; an Air-to-Air Missile Cooperation Agreement between Bharat Dynamics and Republikorp; a Memorandum of Understanding between the Non-Ferrous Materials Technology Development Centre, Midwest Ltds., and PT Perusahaan Mineral Nasional; a Strategic Joint Venture between the Steel Authority of India and PT Krakatau Steel; and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and PT Intelegensi Grahatama. A document was also exchanged between Indonesia and India, namely the Extension of the Framework Agreement between the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia and the Indian Space Research Organisation on Cooperation in the Exploration and Uses of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes.
