Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Defence (Kemenhan) has confirmed that Indonesia is pursuing cooperation with India regarding the BrahMos missile system.

This follows statements made by Philippine Armed Forces Chief General Romeo S Brawner Jr to the media, in which he indicated that Indonesia has initiated cooperation with India on the BrahMos missile system.

“Indonesia is indeed establishing cooperation with India in strengthening defence technology and industry, including the BrahMos missile system to support coastal defence capabilities,” said Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defence Ministry’s Information Bureau, when confirmed by Kompas.com on Tuesday (10 March 2025).

“Regarding further developments related to the number of units, we will inform [the public] on a future occasion,” he stated.

Earlier, the @ANI account on X had posted a video of statements by Philippine Armed Forces Chief General Romeo S Brawner Jr regarding the purchase of the BrahMos missile system.

He also stated that Indonesia has purchased the same system from India.

“I can say that we are satisfied with the purchase, and we hope to conduct more business cooperation with India,” Brawner said.

He added that India is now playing an increasingly significant role in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly in maintaining regional security.

Four months later, India sent four naval vessels to the Philippines. According to Brawner, this step is important for strengthening regional security whilst demonstrating the growing number of partners cooperating to promote an international order based on rules.
