Indonesia and India Agree to Support Sabang-Andaman Port Development

President Prabowo Subianto has affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening economic ties and connectivity with India through the development of strategic ports in Sabang, Aceh, and India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Speaking at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, President Prabowo stated that the two ports would serve as a strategic link between the two regions. “I conveyed support for the development of the port in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and also the development and construction of the port in Sabang, Aceh, as a strategic connector between Sabang Island and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in India,” Prabowo said. He assessed that enhanced connectivity would not only facilitate trade and investment flows but also strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries. Beyond connectivity, Prabowo emphasised that Indonesia and India view economic cooperation as a key pillar of their bilateral relationship. He expressed hope that the maritime connectivity development would serve as a concrete step in strengthening the strategic partnership between Indonesia and India in the Indo-Pacific region.
