Indonesia and France Sign $3.5 Billion Cooperation Agreement

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming and Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani stated Indonesia has signed four new commercial agreements worth US$3.5 billion (Rp62.38 trillion at an exchange rate of Rp17,824 per US dollar) during President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to France.

Rosan said the agreements were reached alongside the launch of the France-Indonesia High Level Business Council in Paris on Thursday, 28 May 2026, in the presence of Prabowo and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The cooperation focuses on energy security, trade, and defence. “The agreements demonstrate Indonesia is viewed as a strategic partner with long-term growth potential and a more competitive investment climate,” Rosan said.

He explained the council brings together 30 leading industrial and corporate leaders from both countries, with a combined market capitalisation of US$1.3 trillion. Chaired by MEDEF International’s France-Indonesia Business Council Chair and Danone CEO Antoine de Saint-Affrique, and KADIN Chairman Anindya Bakrie, the council will oversee the implementation of previous memoranda of understanding and investment commitments, including those from Macron’s May 2025 visit to Indonesia which resulted in 27 MoUs worth over US$11 billion.

“The forum will identify obstacles, expedite resolution of challenges, and ensure optimal investment implementation,” he added.

Rosan stated the council aims to triple bilateral trade by 2035, believing Indonesia-France economic ties will strengthen further. “Government and business collaboration is key to sustainable growth, job creation, and enhancing both nations’ competitiveness amid global economic dynamics,” he added.
