Indonesia and France Agree to Strengthen Economic and Investment Cooperation, Prabowo Welcomes Positive Steps
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnership with the French Republic during a joint press statement with French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday, 28 May 2026, as part of a state visit to the Élysée Palace. In his remarks, President Prabowo highlighted the close collaboration between the two nations in bilateral cooperation, addressing global uncertainties, and emphasised the importance of Indonesia and France’s role in maintaining world peace.
“Looking ahead at global developments, we are confident that in a world filled with uncertainty, tension, and conflict, our two countries can play a positive role. Indonesia will always support efforts to preserve peace. In today’s world, where the globe is shrinking due to science and technology, war and conflict cannot bring benefit to anyone,” said the Head of State.
President Prabowo welcomed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CEPA). He also expressed appreciation for President Macron’s support for enhancing economic and investment ties between the two nations, including the establishment of the France-Indonesia High Level Business Council, which is expected to bolster business relations between Indonesia and France.
“This is very important, and we are delighted by the continued participation and presence of French companies in Indonesia’s economy, and France, as a European leader, will continue to play a crucial role in Southeast Asia,” added President Prabowo.
On global issues, Presidents Prabowo and Macron discussed the importance of Middle East stability, which directly impacts global energy and supply chains. The Head of State reiterated Indonesia’s support for a two-state solution as the path to peace in Palestine.
“I am also pleased that France is a pioneer in encouraging many European and Western nations to support the two-state solution and Palestinian independence. Indonesia maintains that there can be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution and justice for the Palestinian people,” President Prabowo stressed.
During the occasion, President Prabowo also expressed appreciation for the warm and honourable reception given by the French government to himself and the Indonesian delegation. The Head of State noted that Indonesia-France bilateral relations are currently at a very high level.
“Today I was received with great honour. Thank you once again; may Indonesia and France continue to move forward with clear direction and strong commitment,” added the Head of State.
Closing his statement, President Prabowo affirmed that Indonesia views France and Europe as important strategic partners in creating a balanced and peaceful multipolar world order. He expressed optimism that Indonesia-France relations would continue to flourish with strong commitments from both nations.
“Your Majesty, once again thank you for the warm reception for myself and my delegation, and I am confident our discussions will yield positive results. Indonesia views France and Europe as a significant global power, and we wish to see France and Europe grow stronger and more resilient so we can cooperate in a multipolar world,” concluded the Head of State.
