TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi agreed to continue supporting Gaza recovery and reconstruction, as well as to promote peace and the realization of a Palestinian state.
“Indonesia and Egypt have agreed to continue contributing to advancing the peace process and to promptly provide humanitarian aid to Palestine, including for the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza,” said Prabowo in a joint statement at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday, as quoted by ANTARA.
Prabowo said both countries are committed to promoting a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian conflict and supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.
During the meeting, the two heads of state also exchanged views on global and regional issues and emphasized the importance of coordination, consultation, and cooperation in addressing international dynamics.
Regarding Palestine, Prabowo expressed concern over the violence and various actions affecting the civilian population. Indonesia and Egypt also emphasized the importance of respecting international law and human rights.
“We are both deeply concerned about the violence, violations of international law, Israeli military operations, provocative acts, as well as actions violating human rights and the use of excessive force that have resulted in civilian casualties,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo also condemned the construction of illegal Israeli settlements, which is considered to be further exacerbating the situation in the region. He emphasized that a two-state solution is the path to achieving peace.
Indonesia, Prabowo continued, is fully committed to supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle for self-determination and to live in peace.
Regarding the situation in the Middle East, Prabowo stated that Indonesia and Egypt are concerned about the escalation of conflict, which threatens the safety of civilians and regional stability.
“We continue to urge de-escalation, restraint, and respect for sovereignty and international law in accordance with the UN Charter, as well as emphasize the importance of dialogue and diplomacy,” said Prabowo.
