Indonesia and China United in Foiling Malicious Foreign Intentions

Indonesia and China will jointly thwart any foreign powers with malicious intentions. The statement was made by Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun during a visit to Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin at the Ministry of Defence office in Jakarta on Friday (21/8/2026).

“We will together foil the malicious intentions of foreign powers and set an example for Global South countries to pursue a new model of defence cooperation,” Dong Jun said in a joint press conference with Sjafrie.

According to him, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Prabowo Subianto, relations between the two countries are at a new starting point. China and Indonesia, as a community with a shared future, have common interests in maintaining security and development.

“We bear a shared responsibility, and it is the right time to strengthen defence cooperation,” he said.

He stated that the two countries will gather positive forces to maintain regional stability, prevent and control actions that undermine the post-World War II international order established in 1945.

“Stirring up the situation in the region and striving to promote peace, security and prosperity in the region through constructive cooperation,” he said.

Dong Jun arrived in Indonesia on Thursday (20/8), landing at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali. His arrival in Indonesia was welcomed directly by Sjafrie.

Dong Jun’s visit is part of his trip to Indonesia for the second 2+2 meeting and the Indonesia-China bilateral meeting in 2026.
