The governments of Indonesia and China are set to explore a number of new investment projects across various sectors during Chinese Premier Li Qiang's visit to Jakarta from 24 to 26 May 2025. Li Qiang is also scheduled to meet with President Prabowo Subianto.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani said that Premier Li Qiang's visit brings significant opportunities for the realisation and expansion of Chinese investment in Indonesia.

"Several agreements will also be signed, and for us — certainly for me as Minister of Investment and Downstreaming — we very much welcome this, as we have seen that implementation has been progressing well, particularly across many sectors, and they have invested not only in Jakarta but largely outside Jakarta," Rosan said at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Saturday (24 May 2025).

Rosan noted that the projects to be discussed bilaterally between Indonesia and China are new projects, distinct from China's previous US$10 billion investment in Indonesia, which is already at the implementation stage. He said the focus of Premier Li Qiang's visit this time is to open opportunities for new cross-sector projects involving both private companies and state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

"These are new projects, and naturally we at the Ministry of Investment will oversee them to ensure they proceed well and in line with expectations," he told reporters.

The head of BPI Danatara also explained that the areas of cooperation to be explored during the three-day visit include transportation, industrial cluster development, mineral downstreaming, and chemicals. The cooperation also involves synergy between private companies and SOEs.

"There are several areas, including cooperation on carriages and railways, then industrial clusters working together with other business entities and also with SOEs. So it is not only with SOEs but combining all three. Then in the mineral sector, downstream EV battery processing is also included, along with several others including chemicals," he explained.

When asked about foreign policy issues such as trade relations with the United States amid Premier Li Qiang's visit, Rosan affirmed that the primary focus is on deepening mutually beneficial bilateral partnership.

"We will focus more on discussing the strengthening of collaboration between the two countries," he concluded.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Saturday, 24 May 2025, at 15:21 local time. His arrival marked the start of an official visit planned to last three days from 24 to 26 May 2025. Premier Li Qiang was welcomed by Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Indonesia Wang Lutong, and the Indonesian Ambassador to the People's Republic of China Jauhari Oratmangun.
