Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono received Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Jakarta. The two held the inaugural Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD), discussing a range of strategic cooperation.

They met as part of the second 2+2 meeting alongside Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun in Jakarta on Friday (21/8/2026). During the meeting, Sugiono and Wang Yi discussed cooperation spanning the economy, maritime affairs, and education.

“Today we carried out what we call the Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue. This bilateral mechanism with the People’s Republic of China, held this morning, was the first, inaugural meeting,” Sugiono said after the meeting.

“The essence was to discuss matters covering all cooperation in various fields between Indonesia and China, from the economy, socio-cultural affairs, politics, maritime affairs, and education,” he added.

Sugiono said the strategic dialogue addressed cooperation in broad terms and was agreed upon comprehensively. He noted that no single issue was discussed in greater detail.

“Then, other matters related to cooperation between Indonesia and China within a more comprehensive mechanism,” Sugiono said.

“Specifically? No, this was all discussion about the comprehensive strategic partnership across various sectors. So nothing was discussed specifically; everything was discussed,” he added.
