Indonesia and Canada Discuss Investment Agreement

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The governments of Indonesia and Canada are discussing an investment agreement during the summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Singapore, July 21-22.<br /><br />Indonesian trade minister, Mari Elka Pangestu, said the discussions include investment protection, promotion, and legal certainty. The agreement will cover all investment sectors.<br /><br />“Canada did not talk about specific investment sectors,” sadi Mari via teleconference with reporters yesterday (21/7). Mari is currently in Singapore attending the APEC summit.<br /><br />She said she expected that the discussions with Canada would be completed this year as they have been going on now for two years.<br /><br />Mari said the investment agreement with Canada would also involve the Investment Coordinating Board ((BKPM).<br /><br />Meanwhile, Indonesian Industry Minister, Fahmi Idris, said that the bombing at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Jakarta last Friday will not significantly influence investors as up until now no investor has withdrawn their commitment.<br /><br />“There was even an investor from China interested in investing in the automotive sector,” said Fahmi yesterday (21/7).<br /><br />Fahmi mentioned the automotive sector as one of the favorite industry sectors as well as the agribusiness and information technology sectors.<br /><br />NIEKE INDRIETTA
