The Indonesian government is collaborating with Cambodia to form a special team to handle online scams in Cambodia. The team is called the Indonesia Desk.

"Regarding the establishment of the Indonesia Desk within the Cambodian police, this is something quite new," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahd Nabyl during a press conference in Central Jakarta on Thursday (13/8/2026).

Nabyl explained that the Indonesia Desk is stationed at the Cambodian national police headquarters. The team was formed following a visit by Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno to Cambodia.

"This establishment is at the Cambodian National Police headquarters, resulting from the Deputy Foreign Minister’s visit to Phnom Penh at the end of July," he explained.

The formation of the Indonesia Desk involves various agencies from both Indonesia and Cambodia. Those involved include the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Attorney General’s Office, the Indonesian National Police, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK).

The Indonesia Desk is tasked with preventing Indonesian citizens in Cambodia from becoming involved in or falling victim to online scams.

"It is hoped that this planned formation will accelerate the handling of online scam cases involving Indonesian citizens in Cambodia," Nabyl stated.

The Deputy Foreign Minister’s visit also addressed the fate of thousands of Indonesian citizens currently in immigration detention facilities and temporary shelters in Cambodia. They were detained for suspected involvement in online scam crimes and other immigration violations.

"Therefore, we want to ensure that the law enforcement process there, while ongoing, also aligns with our efforts to uphold the outcomes of international conferences on anti-online scams," he added.
