Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the Joint Commission Meeting (SKB) between Indonesia and Belarus serves as an umbrella framework for bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, economy, and technical fields, with the goal of maximizing benefits for the economic development of both countries.

Airlangga also expressed appreciation for Belarus’s support in finalizing and signing the Indonesia-EAEU FTA in December 2025 in St. Petersburg, Russia. “Indonesia views Belarus as a strategic partner in strengthening cooperation in industry, food security, and technology-based manufacturing development,” he said in a written statement on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

According to Airlangga, the implementation of the Indonesia-EAEU FTA is expected to open up wider trade and investment opportunities that are mutually beneficial. He added that Belarus has invited Indonesian stakeholders and business actors to see firsthand the industrial capabilities in agriculture, manufacturing, and various industrial facilities in the country.

Both countries continue to discuss potential cooperation in industry and technology, including plans for joint assembly of machinery in Indonesia. An Indonesia-Belarus Business Forum is also planned to be held as part of the visit of the President of Belarus to Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Viktor Karankevich reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening economic partnership with Indonesia through the development of cooperation in industry, investment, agriculture, and trade connectivity.

He also mentioned that the establishment of the Indonesia-Belarus Business Council will help improve business relations between the two countries, following the signing of the Indonesia-EAEU FTA and the completion of the ratification process.

In the field of trade and investment, both countries recorded a significant increase in trade value, reaching around US$221 million or an increase of 72.6 percent compared to the previous year. The Indonesian government has also identified several strategic cooperation opportunities in recent years.

As one of the countries in Eastern Europe with a strong manufacturing base, especially in the heavy equipment, agriculture, and chemical sectors, Belarus is considered to have strategic potential as a partner for Indonesia in diversifying markets and strengthening the industrial sector.

Indonesia encourages strengthening cooperation through joint venture schemes, local assembly, technology transfer, and increasing the capacity of national industry, especially in the heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, fertilizers, and agricultural machinery sectors.

In the food security and agriculture sector, both countries discussed potential cooperation in agricultural mechanization and modern agricultural technology to support productivity and modernization of the sector.

Indonesia opens opportunities for increased exports of superior products such as rubber, cocoa, coffee, fishery products, and manufactured products to Belarus and the EAEU region. In addition, both countries discussed strengthening cooperation in the fields of investment, health, education, research, culture, sports, and tourism.

In the final discussion, both parties welcomed the preparation of the Roadmap for Developing Key Areas of Cooperation between Belarus and Indonesia for 2026-2030. The document is expected to be a systematic and measurable guide in developing cooperation, as well as being one of the main achievements during the visit of the President of Belarus to Indonesia.
