Indonesia and Belarus Agree on New Roadmap

President Prabowo Subianto and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko have agreed to launch the Indonesia-Belarus Cooperation Strengthening Roadmap 2026-2030 as a new direction for bilateral relations over the next five years. The agreement was one of the main outcomes of the leaders’ meeting during Lukashenko’s state visit at Merdeka Palace on Thursday (2/7). Prabowo explained that in the political field, both countries agreed to strengthen relations through the launch of the cooperation roadmap, which will serve as a reference for developing bilateral ties until 2030. The agreement follows up on the two leaders’ meeting in Minsk last year. ‘Today, both countries have launched the Indonesia-Belarus Cooperation Strengthening Roadmap 2026-2030, which will serve as a framework for developing bilateral relations over the next five years. This roadmap reflects a shared commitment to more focused and concrete cooperation,’ he said. During the bilateral meeting, the two heads of state discussed a number of agendas to strengthen the partnership, ranging from politics and the economy to food security, trade, industry, and human resource development. Prabowo assessed that Indonesia and Belarus have complementary potential, particularly in the development of modern agriculture, fertiliser supply, agricultural technology, and heavy equipment. In the economic sector, both countries agreed to expand partnerships that support their respective national development agendas. Future cooperation focuses on industrial development, agricultural modernisation, supply chain strengthening, and technology development. On trade, Prabowo appreciated Belarus’s move to complete the ratification process of the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA). Meanwhile, Indonesia is also finalising its ratification process for the agreement. Collaboration opportunities are also seen as wide open in the industrial sector. According to Prabowo, both countries will encourage increased investment and the establishment of joint ventures in manufacturing, automotive, heavy vehicles, and agro-industry. Beyond the economic sector, Indonesia and Belarus also committed to strengthening ties in social, cultural, and human resource development. This cooperation will be realised through cultural exchanges, strengthening partnerships between educational institutions, and developing vocational education and training. Prabowo expressed confidence that the series of agreements reached during President Lukashenko’s state visit would strengthen bilateral relations while opening up more concrete cooperation opportunities in various strategic sectors for both countries. Prabowo added that the Belarusian President’s visit reflects the increasingly close relationship between the two countries amid uncertain global dynamics. He noted that Belarus holds a strategic position as Indonesia’s partner in the Eurasian region. ‘This visit signifies the increasingly close friendship between Indonesia and Belarus, amidst the ever-evolving and uncertain global situation. Belarus is an important partner for Indonesia in the Eurasian region,’ he said. He added that the relationship between the two countries has been built on mutual respect and mutual benefit. Therefore, the visit is expected to produce cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
