Jakarta (ANTARA) - The governments of Indonesia and Belarus have agreed to draft a Roadmap of Developing Key Areas of Cooperation between Belarus and Indonesia for 2026-2030 during the 8th Joint Commission Meeting between Indonesia and Belarus on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation in Minsk, Belarus.

The signing was conducted by Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Viktor Karankevich.

“The roadmap is expected to be a systematic and measurable document for developing various forms of cooperation, and it is also expected to be one of the main deliverables during the visit of the President of the Republic of Belarus to Indonesia,” said Airlangga in a statement in Jakarta, Friday.

The Joint Commission Meeting between Indonesia and Belarus serves as an umbrella framework for bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of trade, economy, and technology, with the aim of maximizing the benefits for the economic development of both countries.

“Indonesia views Belarus as a strategic partner in strengthening cooperation in industry, food security, and the development of technology-based manufacturing. The implementation of the Indonesia-EAEU FTA is expected to open up wider and mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities,” said Airlangga.

Belarus also invited Indonesian stakeholders and entrepreneurs to take a closer look at the country’s industrial, manufacturing, and various industrial facilities.

During this event, both countries continued to discuss various opportunities for industrial and technological cooperation, including joint assembly of machinery in Indonesia. An Indonesia-Belarus Business Forum is also planned to be held in conjunction with the planned visit of the President of Belarus to Indonesia.

The Belarusian side is committed to strengthening economic partnerships with Indonesia, including through the development of cooperation in industry, investment, agriculture, and trade connectivity.

In the field of trade and investment, both countries recorded an increase in the value of trade by approximately 72.6 percent year-on-year to around 221 million US dollars.

The Indonesian government believes that Belarus has strategic potential as a partner for diversifying markets and strengthening industrial cooperation, especially due to its strong industrial base in the heavy equipment, agriculture, and chemical sectors.

Indonesia also encourages strengthening cooperation through joint venture schemes, local assembly, technology transfer, and increasing the capacity of the national industry, especially in the sectors of heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, fertilizers, and agricultural machinery.

In the sector of food security and agriculture, both countries discussed the potential for cooperation in agricultural mechanization and modern agricultural technology to support productivity and modernization of the agricultural sector.

Indonesia also opened up opportunities to increase exports of superior products such as rubber, cocoa, coffee, fishery products, and manufactured products to Belarus and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

In addition, both countries also discussed strengthening cooperation in investment, health, education, research, culture, sports, and tourism.
