Indonesia and Albania Sign MoU on Migrant Worker Protection and Placement
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, has held a meeting with Albania’s Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, on Thursday (30/7/2026). On that occasion, the two signed a memorandum of understanding concerning migrant workers in Albania.
Mukhtarudin described the meeting between the two ministers as a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s earlier meeting with Albania’s leadership. The cooperation will strengthen protection for Indonesian citizens working in Albania.
“Today’s meeting is essentially a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s earlier visit to Albania, where he met with the President of the Republic of Albania and also the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania,” said Mukhtarudin at the P2MI office in Jakarta on Thursday (30/7/2026).
“And today it is marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Indonesia and the Republic of Albania, in order to strengthen our synergy in the field of employment, particularly in the context of strengthening protection for Indonesian migrant workers, with Albania being one of the future placement countries,” he continued.
The Indonesia-Albania cooperation will target formal, non-domestic workers. He said there would be further meetings to discuss the technicalities of job matching and business matching, including which sectors and competencies would be covered in follow-up to the two countries’ agreement.
There are not yet many Indonesian citizens working in Albania. However, the signing of the MoU demonstrates a serious commitment to managing labour issues.
“In line with President Prabowo’s instructions and guidance, we are improving and strengthening the quality of protection for Indonesian migrant workers before, during and after placement, and also raising the quality of our migrant workers’ human resources from low skill to medium and high skill workers. Albania will be one of the countries where we place skilled workers, both formal and professional,” he said.
On the same occasion, Albania’s Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, said the memorandum of understanding marked a new step in relations between the two countries. She also said the agreement arose from a shared political will to collaborate.
“I very much hope that, following this memorandum of understanding, the minister can visit Albania so that we can follow up on it and, as soon as possible this autumn, put it into operation with a business forum as well as a technical agreement,” she explained.
