Indonesia and 12 Countries Condemn Israel's Attack on Global Sumud Flotilla Ship
Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with 12 allied foreign ministers, has condemned Israel’s attack on the aid ship sailing towards Gaza, the Global Sumud Flotilla, which also carried hundreds of pro-Palestine activists. The Israeli attack is considered a violation of international law. The 12 allied foreign ministers are from the Republic of Turkey, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Kingdom of Spain, Malaysia, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the Republic of Colombia, the Republic of Maldives, the Republic of South Africa, and the State of Libya. “We strongly condemn Israel’s attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla, a peaceful civil humanitarian initiative aimed at drawing the international community’s attention to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza,” reads the statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs received on Thursday (7/5/2026). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers Israel’s attack on the aid ship unlawful. The Ministry also states that Israel has violated international law. “Israel’s attack on those ships and the unlawful detention of the humanitarian activists in international waters constitute a clear violation of international law and international humanitarian law,” it emphasised. The ministers also expressed deep concern over the safety of those civilian activists. They also urged the Israeli authorities to take the necessary steps to ensure their immediate release. “The ministers call on the international community to fulfil their moral and legal obligations in upholding international law, protecting civilians, and ensuring accountability for those violations,” it said. The Global Sumud Fleet, involving pro-Palestine activists, previously announced that their ships were surrounded by several Israeli military vessels off the coast of Crete Island, Greece. “At the time this statement was published (04.30 GMT), at least 22 ships out of 58 in this fleet had been boarded by Israeli forces, fully violating international law,” the Global Sumud Fleet said in its statement. This latest fleet has been sailing in recent weeks from several locations, including Marseille in France, Barcelona in Spain, and Syracuse in Italy. A total of 175 activists were detained by Israel. The ships in the Global Sumud Fleet aimed to open a humanitarian sea corridor to the Gaza Strip and deliver aid to the region blockaded by Israel since 2007.
