Indonesia Air Transport soars in its services
Indonesia Air Transport (IAT) began operations in 1968,
initially for state oil and gas company Pertamina and its
production-sharing, foreign oil companies. IAT provides a wide
variety of quality aviation services to the oil, gas and mining
industry within Indonesia and Southeast Asia. It also specializes
in aeromedical evacuation services, geophysical surveys and
aerial photography, as well as air services for the developing
tourist industry in remote areas.
Its fleet includes BAC 1-11 and Dassault Falcon 20 jets,
Fokker 27 and Gulfstream passenger/cargo aircraft, Bell 212 and
Dauphin N twin-turbine helicopters, and single-turbine engine
helicopters.
IAT has made major investments in its maintenance facilities
in Jakarta and Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. It has developed
considerable in-house aircraft and helicopter overhaul
capabilities in line with internationally accepted standards.
Domestic and overseas safety inspectors make regular audits.
A member of Helicopter Association International, IAT has been
awarded the association's safety award for more than 15
consecutive years, and is expected to achieve ISO 9002
certification in the near future.
Although the economic crisis has seriously affected IAT, the
management is confident of, and committed to, maintaining its
market share.
IAT's General Manager Peter van Veen is optimistic about the
future of aviation in Indonesia, saying the key to success is
consistent safety, reliability and performance. Van Veen
recommended that the government temporarily eliminate the PPN
import tax on aircraft spare parts and components, and the policy
of large prepayment deposits to Pertamina for aviation fuel.
