Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has affirmed its strong commitment under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto to sustainable forest management at the 21st Session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF21) in New York, United States. Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni, in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday, said that sustainable forest management constitutes an integral pillar of Indonesia’s national agenda. He emphasised that this commitment encompasses actions for climate mitigation, biodiversity conservation, as well as strengthening economic resilience and sustainable development. “Under the direction of President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia continues to strengthen forest governance as an inseparable part of global climate action. Forests are not merely resources, but the foundation for the sustainability of our future generations and the resilience of our nation,” said Raja. Furthermore, he stated that Indonesia’s participation in UNFF21 serves as a crucial momentum to demonstrate tangible achievements in maintaining national forest cover and promoting inclusive and accountable forest governance to the international community. The Forestry Minister also emphasised that the protection of Indonesia’s forest ecosystems is carried out in a balanced manner with efforts to improve community welfare at the grassroots level. Meanwhile, Director General of Sustainable Forest Management (PHL) at the Ministry of Forestry, Laksmi Wijayanti, conveyed that the UNFF21 session is a high-level UN meeting aimed at enhancing political cooperation in global forest management. “The presence of the Forestry Minister in New York affirms Indonesia’s strategic position as one of the largest tropical forest-owning countries that consistently stands at the forefront of nature-based climate change solutions,” said Laksmi.
