Indomobil Says Fuel Price Hike Drives Shift to EVs

JAKARTA – The increase in fuel prices has once again come under the spotlight. The policy implemented by PT Pertamina (Persero) since 4 May 2026 has triggered various responses, including from automotive industry players such as Indomobil Group.

Chief Executive Officer of Indomobil Dealership Group, Santiko Wardoyo, views the fuel price hike as a government policy that undoubtedly has its own considerations. However, on the other hand, its impact is quite burdensome for society.

According to Santiko, the domino effect of the fuel price increase is already being felt, even extending to the industrial raw materials sector.

“As I said earlier, just yesterday Pertamina Dex rose by 4,000 per litre, of course it will burden them,” he said.

Nevertheless, Indomobil is not standing idle in the face of this situation. The company is instead seeking solutions to somewhat alleviate the burden on consumers.

Furthermore, Santiko sees that this policy also aligns with the government’s direction to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and encourage the use of electric vehicles.

“Don’t say we’re happy about it. No. But we utilise the existing conditions. We try to find what we can support. Coincidentally, the government is indeed asking for the electric business to increase,” said Santiko.

With this strategy, the company hopes to help the public shift to more efficient mobility options amid the rising fuel costs.

For information, Pertamina’s adjustment to non-subsidised fuel prices covers several main products.

Pertamina Dex is now priced at Rp 27,900 per litre, up from Rp 23,900 previously; Dexlite has risen to Rp 26,000 from Rp 23,600; while Pertamax Turbo is Rp 19,900 from Rp 19,400 per litre. Meanwhile, subsidised fuels such as Pertalite and Biosolar remain unchanged.
