Indomobil Plans Local Assembly of Leapmotor Electric Vehicles in Cikampek
Jakarta – Stellantis and Indomobil have committed to bringing Leapmotor, a Chinese electric vehicle brand, to the Indonesian market. Beyond simply selling the product, the electric vehicles are planned to be produced locally within the country.
This move forms part of a long-term strategy to strengthen Leapmotor’s presence in Indonesia. With local production, the models offered are expected to be more competitive whilst supporting the development of the national automotive industry.
“Not only that, Indomobil National Distributor also has the responsibility to distribute and provide after-sales service throughout Indonesia,” said Tan, when met in Jakarta recently.
Beyond distribution and after-sales service, the company is also preparing a production scheme for the models to be marketed. According to Tan, Leapmotor vehicles entering Indonesia will utilise a local assembly scheme.
“So, one of the things we are considering to ensure the model, because this CKD process requires preparation and localisation. So, our target is indeed to produce directly within the country,” said Tan.
Regarding the production location, Tan stated that Leapmotor vehicles will be assembled at Indomobil’s manufacturing facility located in the Cikampek region, West Java.
