PT Indomobil eMotor Internasional believes the existence of subsidies or incentives from the government could potentially boost the growth of electric motorcycle sales in Indonesia, although the public’s transition to electric vehicles is believed to be progressing anyway alongside increasing awareness of operational cost efficiency. CEO of PT Indomobil eMotor Internasional, Pius Wirawan, said the public currently still hopes that the electric motorcycle purchase incentive scheme previously implemented by the government can be continued. “The public has already received a lot of information, both valid and invalid. So they are actually hoping the old scheme will be continued now,” said Pius Wirawan during the launch of the Tyranno X electric motorcycle at the Jakarta Fair 2026 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Saturday. According to him, if the previous scheme were reapplied, the public would find it easier to understand the mechanism because the programme had already run before. “If the previous scheme is implemented, of course the public will understand it better because it has already been in operation,” he said. “So, is a subsidy necessary? In my opinion, no. But will a subsidy increase sales? In my opinion, yes,” he stated. He also observed that a trend of shifting to electric motorcycles is beginning to occur in society alongside a growing understanding of the advantages of electric vehicles, especially in terms of usage efficiency. Beyond the amount of the incentive, Pius emphasised the importance of certainty and sustainability of policy for both the industry and consumers. According to him, a sustainable policy will help the public plan their vehicle purchases while providing certainty for manufacturers in arranging production plans. “If we talk about sustainability, of course yes, because it is impossible for the public to plan their purchases without certainty, or for factories to plan their production without certainty,” he said. He added that the growth of the electric motorcycle industry in Indonesia would be healthier if it occurred gradually and stably over the long term. A Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) regarding electric vehicle tax incentives is targeted for issuance in July 2026, after previously being delayed from the initial target of June 2026 because the government is still calculating and finalising the incentive scheme. Previously, the government prepared a purchase subsidy for electric motorcycles of Rp5 million per unit. In the initial phase, the incentive quota was prepared for 100,000 electric motorcycle units. Meanwhile, the new electric motorcycle purchase assistance programme that ran in several phases from 2023 to 2024 provided assistance of Rp7 million per unit for the purchase of new electric motorcycles meeting the TKDN (Domestic Component Level) requirements.
