Indomaret Workers Protest Overtime Pay Change for Public Holidays
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indomaret workers have stated that the policy for overtime pay on public holidays will change starting May 2026. The change has been protested by workers who held a demonstration at Indomaret Tower in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Winda Ayu Kisnanti, a worker at the Tangerang 1 branch, said that for six years working at the company, employees who worked on public holidays always received overtime pay. However, she said the system changed in May 2026. Workers who still work on public holidays now only receive compensatory leave without additional overtime pay. Winda considers the policy unfair and burdensome for retail staff who rely on overtime income. “Overtime pay is crucial because not everyone has sufficient household needs and personal obligations. It’s not just the Rp 400,000 figure, but household needs are more important than expected,” she said. “Because we’ve already paid NKL, which is definite. So why isn’t our overtime paid, but instead replaced with a day off like this?” Winda added. Similar complaints were raised by Christopher from the Bogor 2 branch. He said this was his first experience with the overtime system change since joining the company. Meanwhile, Ahmad Saifudin from the Tangerang 2 branch said workers reject the system of replacing overtime pay with a day off. “Government regulations state that companies must pay overtime on public holidays; employees must be paid overtime wages, not compensated with leave. The law clearly states this,” Ahmad told KOMPAS.com on Tuesday.
