Indomaret Workers Claim Intimidation Over Overtime Pay Policy: Threats of Transfer and Termination
Indomaret workers held a protest demanding the rejection of a new policy replacing public holiday overtime pay with regular days off. They claim they have been intimidated by supervisors for refusing to accept the new policy.
Ahmad Saifuddin, an Indomaret worker representative, told journalists on Tuesday (26 May 2026): “We from all national branches have been intimidated by area supervisors and area managers.”
Ahmad recounted that Indomaret staff were forced to sign documents approving the new overtime policy, which replaces public holiday pay with regular days off. He deemed the documents illegal, noting they lacked Indomaret’s logo, letterhead, and reference numbers.
“It is forcing us to sign hastily prepared, illegal documents with no clear memo from PT Indomarco Prismatama. Store staff are being intimidated into signing whether they agree or not, and the documents are like a Batman trap,” Ahmad explained.
“Employees who refuse or disobey management directives face threats of transfer or termination,” he added.
Another Indomaret employee, Winda Ayu, also reported intimidation from supervisors regarding career progression.
“Supervisors and area managers have told us we will never be promoted to store manager or assistant manager positions,” Winda said. “They say things like, ‘You won’t get promoted, you’ll be transferred to another store,’ in a subtle manner.”
“Indomaret also forbids employees from participating in protests,” Winda added. “They repeatedly tell us not to join such actions.”
Detikcom observed on Tuesday (26 May 2026) that workers began gathering outside the Indomaret Tower at 9.40am WIB, wearing union badges.
Flags from labour organisations including the Labour Party and FSPMI were visible, with the crowd guided by command vehicles.
Protesters chanted demands listed on banners, including “Pay our overtime!”
The six demands listed on banners by the PUK SPAI PT Indomarco Prismatama Tangerang were:
Reject all forms of coercion, pressure, and manipulation of statements against workers
Affirm workers’ right to overtime pay
Reject replacing overtime rights with additional days off as per regulations
Demand company compliance with internal regulations and Labour Law
Demand strict action against those responsible for intimidation
Do not disrupt industrial relations
