Local retail chain Indomaret is planning to open 800 new stores this year, making its total number of outlets across the country 5,755.

Indomaret currently operates 4,955 stores throughout Indonesia.

Wiwiek Yusuf, director of marketing at PT Indomarco Prismatama, which operates Indomaret, said 50 new stores had opened in January alone.

“Our share in the retail chain market was 38 percent last year. By the end of 2011, we predict the figure will be 42 percent,” he said Tuesday, as quoted by kontan.co.id.

Wiwiek said in order to support the increased number of outlets, Indomaret would open three new office branches, adding to its 13 existing office branches.

“A branch can oversee about 300 outlets,” he said.

Wiwiek said each Indomaret store generated about Rp 10 million (US$1,120) in income per month, meaning Indomaret earns Rp 49.6 billion a month from its 4,955 operating outlets.
