JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – PT Indomarco Prismatama has spoken out regarding the controversy over changes to overtime pay for public holidays, which sparked worker protests and led to a demonstration at the Indomaret Tower in Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

Customer Relationship Management Executive Director Gondo Sudjoni confirmed the company has not completely eliminated overtime pay as workers complained.

“So, we haven’t fully removed overtime. Some days are replaced with leave, while others still receive overtime pay,” Gondo said when met at the Indomaret Tower on Tuesday.

“Yes, the current situation is that we all know the global economic conditions. Everything needs to be balanced in business,” he added.

He stated that increases in fuel prices, raw materials, and packaging have directly impacted the company’s operational costs.

“Fuel prices have risen, packaging costs have gone up, raw material prices have increased. All these costs are rising, which affects operational expenses,” Gondo said.

He mentioned the company needs to adjust to keep business operations balanced.

Gondo said the overtime pay structure changes are part of the company’s efficiency measures amid high distribution and store service costs.

“If we don’t act efficiently on operational costs, it becomes very burdensome,” he said.

He gave an example of high distribution costs to areas outside the city.

“For areas outside the city, some are 200 kilometres away, for example in Sulawesi, hundreds of kilometres. The costs are very high,” he added.

Despite this, the company is still striving to maintain customer service.
