The growth of the crypto industry and Indonesian crypto exchanges must now be balanced with consumer protection. Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indodax, a player in the trading of crypto assets or crypto exchange, states that the digital asset industry is now required to grow in a more transparent, responsible manner, and to provide broader access for the public to digital financial services. Indodax’s Chief Marketing Officer, Aloysia Dian, stated that Indonesia’s digital finance industry is entering a more mature phase, where trust, consumer protection, and financial inclusion are the main factors in determining the sustainability of industry growth. “The growth of the crypto industry and Indonesian crypto exchanges at present must be balanced with consumer protection, transparency, and strong governance so that the ecosystem can develop in a healthy, sustainable way and provide real benefits more broadly to society,” she said in her statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) recorded that the number of users of digital financial asset platforms has reached 17.17 million users with a total of 77.32 million transactions throughout the current year. “In the digital asset industry, trust is not just a supporting factor, but the main foundation,” said Aloysia at the 2026 AFTECH General Members’ Meeting. According to her, strengthening regulation and literacy are two important elements in building a more mature digital asset industry. Going forward, she added, the growth of Indonesia’s digital asset industry will increasingly be determined by the industry’s ability to maintain a balance between innovation, consumer protection, and good governance. “With increasingly mature regulatory support as well as collaboration between regulators and the industry, we are optimistic that Indonesia’s digital finance ecosystem can continue to develop in a healthy, inclusive, and sustainable manner,” she said. In line with that, the General Chairman of the Indonesian Fintech Association (AFTECH), Pandu Sjahrir, emphasised that Indonesia’s digital finance industry is now entering a more mature phase; industry players are no longer just focused on competing for market share, but are starting to place governance, compliance, and public trust as the main foundation for industry growth. According to him, it is important to build innovation that is “secure by design” and “responsible by design”, so that the development of financial technology can provide real impact to the real sector and the wider community. He assessed that Indonesia’s digital industry currently has a positive growth story and is increasingly showing a healthier business foundation compared to several years ago. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, stated that innovation in the digital finance sector must go hand in hand with consumer protection and strengthening public trust. According to her, industry growth must not only be oriented towards business expansion alone, but also needs to ensure the security and long-term sustainability of the ecosystem. She emphasised that technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, cloud computing, and blockchain will increasingly play a role as enablers in expanding inclusion and efficiency of digital financial services, including reaching communities and businesses that were previously not optimally served.
