Indodax calls for standardisation for crypto asset influencers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Influencers are seen as having a strategic role in delivering education and shaping a more positive public perception of crypto assets amid the rising consumption of digital information.
According to Indodax CEO William Sutanto, the presence of influencers is inseparable from the development of the crypto industry in Indonesia, yet it still requires clear standardisation or boundaries.
“Platforms like Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and others are widely used by influencers to disseminate news. However, beyond that, this also serves as a business field for influencers, involving marketing activities, information distribution, and education,” he stated in his remarks in Jakarta on Friday.
During a presentation in one of the sessions of Crypto Literacy Month (BLK) 2026, he noted that the contributions of influencers have played a crucial role in the growth of the crypto industry, particularly in bridging complex information to the public.
Crypto, he continued, is a topic that is not easy because it is quite technical, and there are many projects out there; therefore, without the role of parties educating the public, the messages conveyed have the potential to be misleading or not delivered properly.
“The crypto ecosystem in Indonesia would not have developed as it has today without the contributions of influencers and content creators who promote the crypto market,” he said.
Nevertheless, William emphasised the need for strengthened oversight of anonymous accounts that could spread misinformation or engage in black campaigns or negative campaigns related to the crypto industry.
“As the industry develops, anonymous accounts have begun to emerge whose voices cannot be held accountable but have significant influence,” he said.
He revealed that in several cases, including those experienced by Indodax, such accounts have engaged in defamation and negative campaigns that are detrimental to both companies and individuals.
“Therefore, stricter regulation and oversight are needed to keep the crypto ecosystem healthy and integrous,” he stated.
According to him, on one hand, the role of influencers is very helpful in spreading understanding to the public, but on the other hand, clear regulations are still needed to protect the public.
When talking about financial assets, he added, it cannot be denied that there are parties who exploit the moment in a harmful way.
Therefore, his side strongly supports regulation from authorities to keep the situation under control and protect the public.
“On the other hand, educational efforts carried out by influencers and content creators should continue, as long as they have clear boundaries and do not harm others,” he said.
Previously, the Indonesian Blockchain Association (ABI) along with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) held Crypto Literacy Month (BLK) 2026, which runs throughout April to May 2026.
Entering its fourth year, this education programme arrives with a broader and more inclusive scope, targeting the general public, academics, influencers, technology developers, and law enforcement officials.
Carrying the theme “Integration of Blockchain and Crypto Innovation: Realising an Inclusive Digital Ecosystem Transformation”, BLK 2026 emphasises the importance of cross-sector collaboration in driving a more equitable, sustainable, and accessible national digital transformation for various layers of society.
In one of the panel sessions, the role of influencers and content creators became a focus in the crypto ecosystem.
BLK 2026 emphasises the involvement of influencers and content creators to minimise misinformation and promote broader crypto literacy.
In line with these efforts, BLK 2026 also collaborates with influencers and content creators as a concrete step in strengthening public literacy and understanding of crypto assets.
The programme also features a series of educational activities in various cities through discussions and workshops involving communities, academics, developers, law enforcement, and other stakeholders.
William stated that to support this initiative, his side continues to promote comprehensive education through Indodax Academy, as well as providing a safe and transparent platform as part of the commitment to increase public literacy and trust in the national crypto industry.
