Indo-Chinese paintings

A solo exhibition of Indo-Chinese paintings by Sidik W.
Martowidjoyo (Ma Yung Qiang) will be held at the National Gallery
from Sept. 4 through Sept. 9.

During the exhibition titled Gema Bunga ke Panorama (Flower
Echo to Panorama), Sidik will also launch a monograph and will
give a painting demonstration.

Born in Malang, East Java, in 1937 as Ma Yung Qiang, Sidik
started learning calligraphy and Chinese-style painting when he
was nine years old.

His devotion to Chinese painting never diminished even though
he had to develop his talent clandestinely, because all things
Chinese were banned under the New Order government.

This will be his 17th solo exhibition. Sidik plans to display
his paintings at the main hall of the Chinese National Gallery in
Beijing next year.
