Indisciplined bus drivers

Indisciplined bus drivers

From Suara Karya

My observation of traffic in the capital city of Jakarta (DKI)
reveals that traffic jams which occur nearly everywhere in DKI
are mainly caused by indisciplined public bus drivers. For
example, they stop their buses indiscriminately, including at no-
stopping zones, and they park their buses, while waiting for
passengers, at no parking zones, not to mention "strategic"
spots. These actions inconvenience road users. Many of them do
not use the bus stops to drop or pick up passengers, thus causing
traffic jams. Many others stop right in the middle of the road to
drop off passengers without considering vehicles behind them.

Some of them sometimes think they own the roads and as such
can do anything they wish on the road. Yes, this is a matter of
mentality as well as road discipline. I am afraid, in general,
public transportation drivers across the country have imitated
the poor attitude and discipline of their counterparts in DKI.

So if we, road users, including pedestrians, wish to see the
end of traffic jams, chaos and accidents, we have to appeal to
all drivers, in particular those of public buses, to obey traffic
regulations and be more disciplined.

We also have to push government agencies responsible for
public transportation to take stern measures to improve the
performance of bus drivers. Bus drivers who refuse to comply with
traffic regulations should be dismissed.
