Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public awareness of the implementation of the 2026 Lebaran mudik is relatively high, with young people, particularly Generation Z, being the most dominant group in accessing information and government programmes.

Researcher from the Indonesian Political Indicator survey institution, Hendro Prasetyo, stated that Generation Z has the broadest level of knowledge compared to other age groups.

“Generation Z generally knows the most about various programmes,” he said in a release of the public evaluation survey on the organisation of the 2026 Lebaran mudik, attended online in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The survey shows that Generation Z’s knowledge of government programmes is at the highest level, with the majority over 60 percent aware of various mudik policies, higher than other age groups.

Overall, the most popular programme is food assistance in the form of 10 kg of rice and 2 litres of cooking oil, known to about 59 percent of respondents, followed by free mudik at 55 percent, and the guarantee of no fuel price increase at 49 percent.

Meanwhile, other programmes such as transport fare discounts, THR increases, toll fare discounts, and the work-from-anywhere policy have popularity levels below 40 percent.

On the other hand, older age groups tend to be more familiar with programmes directly related to basic needs. “This food assistance programme is more known to older age groups,” said Hendro.

Geographically, the highest awareness is in the origin areas of mudik travellers such as Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, and Central Java–Yogyakarta, which are mobility centres during the Lebaran period.

In addition to age and region factors, education and income levels also influence information access. “The higher the education and income, the higher the knowledge of these programmes,” he said.

The survey also shows the connection between information access and public perception. Groups active on social media such as Instagram and WhatsApp tend to have higher satisfaction levels with mudik organisation, at around 88 percent and 83 percent respectively.

Conversely, respondents relying on conventional media such as television and print newspapers tend to be more critical, with satisfaction levels around 70 percent.

Interestingly, both respondents who know and do not know the government programmes mostly give positive evaluations. More than 60 percent of respondents rate the programmes as quite or very helpful during the Lebaran period.

“Society that knows the programmes tends to evaluate more positively,” said Hendro.

The survey was conducted from 29 March to 4 April 2026 on 1,200 respondents using multi-stage random sampling method with a margin of error of ±2.9 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.

These findings affirm mudik as a strategic momentum that not only strengthens social relations but also drives broad regional economic growth.
