Indian PM Narendra Modi Arrives in Indonesia, Receives Warm Welcome from President Prabowo

President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon his arrival in Indonesia on Monday, 6 July 2026, marking the close relationship between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi’s arrival is for a three-day state visit. As a form of honour, the aircraft carrying the Indian PM was specially escorted by three F-16 fighter jets and two Sukhoi fighter jets as it entered Indonesian airspace. The plane carrying PM Modi landed at approximately 5.20 p.m. Western Indonesian Time at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta. President Prabowo’s welcome directly at the bottom of the aircraft steps demonstrated a state honour reflecting Indonesia’s closeness and respect for India. At the bottom of the aircraft steps, the two leaders shook hands and chatted while exchanging warm smiles. Afterwards, the two leaders walked side by side past the honour guard troops, accompanied by instrumental music from the corps of music and a six-gun salute. Also present to welcome PM Modi were Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Shri Sandeep Chakravorty, Indian Ambassador to ASEAN Shri Srinivas Gotru, and Indian Defence Attaché to Indonesia Captain Shiv Kumar. The welcoming atmosphere was further enlivened by a performance of traditional Indonesian dances accompanied by traditional music, symbolising the hospitality and cultural richness of Indonesia. PM Modi appeared to enjoy and appreciate the dance performance. The camaraderie between the two leaders throughout the airport welcoming ceremony reflected a warm personal relationship and mutual respect. This state visit is an important momentum to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and India in various fields. During his stay in Indonesia, PM Modi is scheduled to undertake a series of state agendas with President Prabowo, including an official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, bilateral meetings, and discussions on various strategic cooperation opportunities of mutual interest. This visit also holds historical significance as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second visit to Indonesia, following his trip in 2018.
