Indian PM Modi to Worship at Prambanan Temple During State Visit

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, together with President Prabowo Subianto, will visit Prambanan Temple. During the visit, PM Modi will also take time to worship at the temple complex. ‘Prime Minister Modi will also take the opportunity to perform worship at the Prambanan Temple complex,’ Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi told reporters on Wednesday. During the event, Prabowo and PM Modi will sign a cooperation agreement on the conservation of Prambanan, given that it is a world heritage site and the largest Hindu temple. ‘One of the largest Hindu temple sites and a UNESCO world heritage site, with several agendas including the signing of cooperation for the conservation of Prambanan Temple,’ he said. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon previously revealed that the Indian government’s plan to restore Prambanan Temple had been conveyed by Narendra Modi a year and a half ago. Fadli said the revitalisation would focus on the smaller temples, or perwara temples, within the Prambanan area. ‘Yes, this was conveyed by Prime Minister Modi a year and a half ago. Now, tomorrow, he will see Prambanan Temple firsthand,’ Fadli told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday. ‘There is a quarter of the Prambanan Temple complex, the perwara, the small temples, that we have not yet revitalised,’ he continued. Fadli noted that out of a total of around 200 perwara temples, the government has only revitalised six. He welcomed the cooperation with the Indian government on the temple restoration. ‘Out of the two hundred, we have only revitalised six. The three main temples are already done. So we certainly welcome the desire from the Indian side to support us in revitalising Hindu temples, in this case specifically Prambanan Temple,’ he said. Fadli stated that PM Modi is very interested in following up on the revitalisation cooperation because Prambanan is one of the largest Hindu temples, featuring three main temples and hundreds of perwara temples.
