Indian Man Smuggling 265 Grams of Gold Using Diaper Promised Rp 5 Million Wage
The suspect (wage) was promised Rp 5 million. But later, just a promise. He was bought a ticket, then perhaps also sightseeing in Indonesia. Later perhaps there it will be added too,” said the Head of Soekarno-Hatta Customs Hengky Tomuan Parlindungan Aritonang to reporters at the Soekarno-Hatta Customs office, Tangerang, on Monday (11/5/2026). Hengky mentioned that MNTP had been in Indonesia for seven days. He stayed at a hotel in Jakarta. “So if he was sent, according to him, to go sightseeing in Indonesia by this sender. After we checked, it is true that this is his first time in Indonesia,” he explained. Currently, Hengky said they have cooperated with the police to investigate the possibility of other couriers besides MNTP. He suspects there are still other couriers attempting to take gold out of Indonesia without proper documentation. “But it does not rule out the possibility that we will continue to tighten, looking for others because perhaps not only one courier was sent by his boss. But perhaps there are other couriers, even possibly through other airports so this case has been coordinated nationally, both between Customs and Avsec/Angkasa Pura,” he added. Meanwhile, MNTP’s action was discovered when passing through pre-flight checks at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Suspicious officers immediately confirmed and found gold ore attached in the diaper he wore to deceive the inspection. “It turns out this person was carrying or attempting to take this gold out by placing it in pampers or in the underwear he was wearing,” he explained. Hengky described that officers found two packets of gold still in granular form. This made it easier to attach using gel and placed behind the worn pampers. “So the granules like those in front here are put into gel, gel from glue, then the gold is attached. If you look here there are visible gold granules, then worn. The modus operandi used is like the modus operandi of drug smuggling,” he added. Hengky added that they separated the gold from the diaper. Then, the gold was tested in the laboratory. “It was found that the item, the granules, is a precious metal type of gold, with purity greater than 90% with a total gross weight of 265.7 grams, spread in the two packets then applied as Pampers,” he said.
