Indian Government Investigates After iPhone 18 Pro Documents Leak from Tata Electronics

The Indian government has begun investigating a data leak at Tata Electronics after confidential documents related to the unreleased iPhone 18 Pro were stolen and published on the dark web. This marks the first official government statement regarding the incident.

S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, confirmed the investigation, stating that the breach has been reported to the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the primary agency responsible for handling cyber security issues in India.

The leak occurred after a ransomware group exfiltrated and released various files from Tata Electronics, one of Apple’s suppliers in the country. The compromised documents include sensitive component lists, supplier directories, and photographs of the iPhone 18 Pro, which has not yet been launched to the public.

The breach is considered a significant threat to the iPhone supply chain, which Apple has built through a global network of suppliers operating under extremely high levels of confidentiality. The leaked documents reportedly reveal which companies manufacture specific components for the iPhone 18 Pro line, information that Apple has never disclosed in its official published supplier lists.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max this coming September. It was previously reported that Tata Electronics had appointed a global consultancy to conduct a forensic audit of the incident, following the appearance of documents from other technology firms such as Tesla, Qualcomm, and TSMC on the dark web as a result of the same breach.
