Indian dance festival in four cities

DENPASAR, Bali: A festival of classic and popular Indian dances will tour four Indonesian cities between Oct. 18 and Nov. 4, organizers said.

A 100-strong Indian dance troupe will make its first stop in Denpasar, before moving to Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Bandung. The cultural mission is aimed at boosting ties between the two countries.

Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Shyam Saram met with Bali Governor Dewa Beratha in Denpasar on Wednesday to discuss preparations for the event.

The spokesman for the provincial administration, I Gde Nurjaya, said the arts mission was being sponsored by Indian businesspeople in Indonesia.

He said there would be at least seven dances performed, including a collaboration between Indian and Balinese dancers. -- Antara
