Indian community raises Aceh funds

DENPASAR: The Indian Community and Dawoodi Bohra Indian Moslem Community in Bali had raised around Rp 460 million (about US$50,000) in funds for Tsunami victims.

The donation was presented to Bali Governor Dewa Made Beratha on Jan. 13.

People of Indian, Arabic and Chinese descent have lived in Bali for centuries, long before the arrival of Western expatriates.

Relations between India and Bali have been close. Evidence of Indian culture and religion can clearly be seen in present-day Bali.

Anyone who might wish to contact the community may call community coordinator Dr. Somvir on tel. (0361) 725661 or 0812 3947732. -- JP
