India-UK Free Trade Agreement Comes into Force

The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between India and the United Kingdom came into force on Wednesday, according to India’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Piyush Goyal. “Under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi, the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Agreement on Social Security have come into effect,” Goyal said on his X account. Goyal stated that the agreement provides duty-free market access for nearly 99 per cent of Indian exports and covers almost 100 per cent of the trade value. The free trade agreement with the UK opens unprecedented opportunities for India’s textile, leather, and jewellery industries, as well as the engineering, chemical, and food sectors, and agricultural exports, he added. The agreement also creates new opportunities for cooperation in IT, finance, education, and business services, while enhancing mobility for Indian professionals, Goyal said.
