India trains 850 Indonesians
JAKARTA: Since 1964 India has trained more than 850 Indonesian officials and students in various vocational skills, the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Shyam Saran has said.
The training programs for Indonesians are still in place, he told a gathering of Indonesian graduates of Indian universities in Jakarta on Thursday night.
Mohan Lal, an education and information attache at the Indian Embassy here, said the program was a follow-up to the education and training cooperation between the two countries initially forged in 1964.
He said that apart from regular training courses, India also invited Indonesian students to take part in short-term courses on various topics in New Delhi.
India has provided 100 scholarships for masters and doctorate- degree students from 10 ASEAN countries since 1998, Mohan said, adding that Indonesia had benefited from this program by sending 450 engineers to study at Roorkee University. --Antara
