India to probe plane accident
NEW DELHI (Reuter): An enquiry has been ordered into an accident in which a Boeing airliner with more than 100 people on board overshot a runway at an airport in the Indian capital, officials said yesterday.
Four passengers were slightly hurt on Saturday when the state- owned Indian Airlines plane overshot the runway while landing after a flight from Bombay to Delhi.
"An enquiry into the accident has been ordered under Aircraft rules and an inspector of accidents has been appointed," Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), H.S. Khola, said.
Khola said the pilot landed the aircraft on the runway beyond the normal touch down point and could not bring the aircraft to a halt. The pilot has been grounded under usual procedures but any punitive action could be taken after a preliminary report.
