India Targets Indonesia's Urea Fertiliser Imports, Ambassador Meets Deputy Agriculture Minister
India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, met with Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono to discuss plans for importing urea fertiliser from Indonesia to support agricultural needs in the country. “Today, we discussed one of the main topics, which is how India can secure its urea supply needs, one of the sources of which comes from Indonesia,” said Deputy Minister Sudaryono after receiving the visit from India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, in Jakarta on Thursday. The Deputy Minister noted that Indonesia and India share close historical and cultural relations, as well as strong and mutually beneficial economic cooperation in various development sectors. In trade, the two countries mutually fulfil needs for important commodities, with Indonesia importing several products from India and exporting various flagship commodities to that country. Furthermore, Sudaryono mentioned that based on government calculations, there is potential for a surplus urea production of around 1.5 million tonnes that can be allocated for export after domestic needs are optimally fulfilled.
