India Suddenly Blocks Telegram
India has temporarily blocked the messaging app Telegram. The ban took effect on Tuesday (16/6/2026) and will last until 22 June 2026, a period of six days. The reason for the block is that Telegram was used to cheat candidates taking medical entrance exams. This was confirmed by India’s Ministry of Education. “We have blocked Telegram until 22 June 2026, as it was used to defraud candidates taking the medical entrance exam,” the Ministry of Education said in a statement. It was previously reported that medical exam questions in India had been leaked. According to The Times of India, the incident quickly sparked controversy in India, raising concerns about the fairness of one of the country’s most important entrance exams. Under pressure from the public and candidates, India’s National Testing Agency (NTA) decided to hold a retest on 21 June 2026.
