New Delhi (ANTARA) - Amid supply disruptions due to the situation in the Middle East, India has opened a global tender to import 2.5 million metric tonnes of urea, local officials said on Monday (6/4). India’s state-owned company, Indian Potash Limited, has issued the tender with a submission deadline of 15 April. India relies on the global market to meet its urea needs. Demand for this primary crop nutrient is expected to rise with the arrival of the rainy season and the start of summer agricultural activities. The global supply chain faces major disruptions due to the conflict in the Middle East. The tensions have caused interruptions in fertiliser supplies from major Middle Eastern exporters and reduced shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route. The closure of this sea route has led to LPG shortages in India and a surge in global oil prices.
