The foreign ministers of the United States, Japan, Australia, and India met in New Delhi on Tuesday for the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, commonly known as the Quad. US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will exchange views on ‘advancing Quad cooperation across various priority areas and reviewing progress on ongoing Quad initiatives,’ according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs. The ministry stated that the foreign ministers would also discuss recent developments in the Indo-Pacific region and other international issues of mutual concern. Indian officials said energy, maritime security, and regional stability are some of the areas expected to be discussed during the meeting. The Quad, a partnership between the US, Australia, India, and Japan, was established in 2007. The meeting in New Delhi took place amid a war between the US and Iran. The Indian government said the Quad brings together four nations ‘committed to working as a force for global good and supporting a prosperous and resilient Indo-Pacific that is open, free, and inclusive.’ The last Quad leaders’ summit was held in the US in 2024. Rubio, who arrived in India last week for his first four-day visit, said they would ‘renew’ the Quad.
