India has condemned an attack on two ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The two vessels, MT Al Bahiyah and MT Mombasa, were carrying a total of 30 Indian sailors. The attack killed at least one Indian national and left two others seriously injured. In an official statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the South Asian nation also condemned acts of violence targeting sailors and disrupting free and safe navigation in international waterways. “We also reiterate our deep concern over the recurrence of attacks and the escalation of hostilities in the West Asia region and call for an immediate cessation of violence and a return to dialogue and diplomacy for the sake of regional peace, security, and stability,” the statement read. The ministry added that attacks on commercial vessels and civilian infrastructure in the region must stop so that free and unimpeded navigation and trade through international waterways in the area, in accordance with international law, can be restored as soon as possible.
