India and Indonesia to Strengthen Cooperation on Poverty Alleviation, Health, and Food Security

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that India and Indonesia are elevating their cooperation on shared priorities, including poverty alleviation and public welfare programmes. Speaking at a joint press conference with President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, Modi highlighted the common ground between the two nations. “We have a similar programme of providing meals and distribution to the public in Indonesia. And now we are taking this cooperation to a higher level,” PM Modi said. He emphasised that tackling poverty and ensuring welfare programmes reach all levels of society is a top priority for both countries. The two nations also agreed to strengthen cooperation in the health sector. India is committed to supplying quality and affordable medicines to Indonesia. “Our cooperation in health will make an important contribution to ensuring quality healthcare in both countries through the agreement signed today. Quality and affordable medicines from India will be increasingly available to Indonesian citizens,” PM Modi elaborated. India will also contribute to enhancing the capacity of doctors and healthcare workers in Indonesia. Furthermore, cooperation on food security will be continuously promoted through sustainable farming and agrotechnology. “Food security in Indonesia will also be further strengthened through sharing best practices in sustainable farming and agrotechnology with each other,” he concluded.
