India and Indonesia to Enhance Cooperation on Free Nutritious Meal Programme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised the commitment of India and Indonesia to strengthen cooperation in poverty alleviation through free nutritious meal programmes, healthcare services, and food security.

“We have similar lunch programmes and public distribution in Indonesia, and we are now elevating that cooperation to a higher level,” said Modi in a joint statement following a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Modi stated that both nations share the same priorities in ensuring that welfare programmes reach all layers of society. Consequently, Indonesia and India have agreed to enhance cooperation through the exchange of experiences and best practices.

He noted that the agreements signed by both countries will expand the availability of high-quality, affordable medicines from India for the Indonesian people.

“Through the agreements signed today, quality and affordable medicines from India will become increasingly available to Indonesian citizens,” he said.

The cooperation also encompasses the exchange of best practices in sustainable agriculture and the development of agrotechnology to increase productivity and food sector resilience in both countries.

Modi expressed confidence that strengthening cooperation in social welfare, health, and food security will provide tangible benefits to the people of both Indonesia and India, while simultaneously deepening the strategic partnership between the two nations.
