India and Indonesia to Enhance Cooperation on Free Nutritious Meal Programme

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has affirmed the commitment of India and Indonesia to strengthen cooperation in poverty alleviation through free nutritious meal programmes, healthcare services, and food security. “We have the same lunch programme and public distribution in Indonesia, and now we are taking this cooperation to a higher level,” Modi said in a joint statement following a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday. Modi stated that both countries share the same priority of ensuring welfare programmes reach all levels of society. Therefore, Indonesia and India have agreed to enhance cooperation through the exchange of experiences and best practices. He noted that the agreements signed by both countries will expand the availability of quality, affordable medicines from India for the Indonesian public. The cooperation includes the exchange of best practices in sustainable agriculture and the development of agricultural technology to boost productivity and strengthen the food sector in both nations. Modi expressed confidence that strengthening cooperation in social welfare, health, and food security will deliver tangible benefits to the people of Indonesia and India while further solidifying the strategic partnership between the two countries.
