Jakarta (ANTARA) - Perumda Pasar Jaya targets the independent waste processing programme in the Kramat Jati Main Market area, East Jakarta, to begin operations in its initial phase in March 2027.

“Insya Allah, we will be able to operate in the initial phase by March 2027,” said the Director of Perumda Pasar Jaya, Agus Himawan, at Palmeriam Market, Matraman, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Agus described this effort as a step to accelerate waste handling at the Kramat Jati Main Market.

The programme is expected to reduce dependence on transporting waste to the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) Bantargebang and serve as a long-term solution to environmental issues at the capital’s largest food distribution centre.

Furthermore, Agus explained that the independent waste management plan has now entered a mature technical planning stage.

In fact, the preparation of planning products and detailed working drawings (detail engineering design/DED) has been completed as the basis for constructing the waste processing facility on site.

Agus further explained that to realise this project, Pasar Jaya is partnering with the Lembaga Afiliasi Penelitian dan Industri Institut Teknologi Bandung (LAPI-ITB) as the technical partner.

This collaboration is expected to ensure that the technology used meets the needs and can effectively process waste in the market environment.

With this facility, all waste generated from market activities can be handled directly on site without needing to be transported outside the area.

Regarding capacity, Agus stated that the daily waste volume at the Kramat Jati Main Market currently reaches approximately 200 tonnes per day.

With that capacity, the independent processing facility is designed to manage all the waste produced each day.

“The waste capacity at the main market is approximately 200 tonnes. So it can be handled on site, no need to send it to Bantargebang,” said Agus.

This discussion is important because the total waste from all markets in Jakarta reaches around 500 tonnes per day. Of that amount, about 200 tonnes comes from the Kramat Jati Main Market.

“We want to ensure that the waste management concept and system going forward operates optimally. Especially since there was previously a warning from the Environmental Agency regarding waste issues and the implementation of the gubernatorial regulation. This must serve as material for evaluation and improvement,” said the Chairman of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta City Council, Nova Harivan Paloh, in Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/2).

Further, Nova added that Commission B supports Pasar Jaya’s independent waste management plan. He assessed that this step could help reduce the burden on TPST Bantargebang, which currently receives around 7,800 tonnes of waste per day.

With such a volume, queues of waste trucks heading to Bantargebang often form lines and create their own problems.
