Independent Selection Opened, Unpad: Tuition Fees Will Not Increase

Universitas Padjadjaran or Unpad has opened registrations for the independent selection (SMUP) for new undergraduate (S1) and D4 or applied degree students from 1 April to 2 June 2026. Unpad Rector Arief S. Kartasasmita has assured that the tuition fees for the independent selection pathway will be the same as in previous years. “We are committed that SMUP will not experience any increase; the fees remain the same,” he said during the offline and online new student admission socialisation on Monday, 6 April 2026. The capacity for the independent selection pathway prepared by Unpad totals 3,868 seats, divided into 3,373 for prospective undergraduate (S1) programme students and 495 for those interested in D4 or applied degree programmes. In addition to being required to pay single tuition fees (UKT) varying according to the chosen study programme, those who pass the selection will also be required to pay institutional development contribution fees (IPI). “Although it is called an independent programme, it will certainly be in line with students’ abilities, so do not interpret it as Unpad’s effort to seek funding,” Arief stated. Unpad is opening several pathways for independent selection, namely based on selection test results and report cards, results from computer-based written exam tests (UTBK) and report cards, as well as based on interests and talents. In addition, there is selection for the international undergraduate programme (IUP), as well as strategic partnership selection. In particular, Unpad will invite outstanding high school students from disadvantaged, outermost, and frontier (3T) areas, also from family members who are getting the opportunity to continue studies to higher education for the first time, as well as outstanding students from underrepresented schools. Head of Unpad’s Independent Selection Office, Anas, said that the 2026 selection system and admission information are integrated with registrations for new student admissions at Unpad. “Participants who have been accepted through the National Selection Based on Achievements (SNBP) pathway cannot register for the independent selection pathway or the National Selection Based on Tests (SNBT),” he said on Tuesday, 7 April 2026. For the independent selection pathway based on interests and talents specifically, Unpad is opening opportunities for applicants who have achievements in the fields of research and innovation, sports, arts and culture, memorisation of holy scriptures, and other religious activities. Those who pass the selection are not charged Institutional Development Contribution fees (IPI). For example, the fees for new S1 and D4 students from Unpad’s 2026 independent selection, such as for the law study programme, amount to UKT of Rp 7 million per semester and IPI of Rp 50 million. For medicine, UKT is Rp 20.5 million, with IPI set at Rp 195 million; psychology UKT Rp 10 million with IPI of Rp 85 million. Meanwhile, political science UKT Rp 6 million with IPI Rp 30 million, as well as government studies, English literature, and Japanese literature.
