Independence-themed garden adorns North Jakarta Mayor's Office
The North Jakarta City Government has decorated the lobby of the North Jakarta Mayor’s Office with an independence-themed garden that introduces the local identity of the area as a Coastal City in welcoming the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
“A variety of plants with distinctive colours and characters have been neatly arranged, presenting a vibrant atmosphere of independence while introducing North Jakarta’s identity as a coastal city,” said Head of the North Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Sub-department Reina Camelia in Jakarta on Friday.
According to her, the arrangement is not merely about beautifying the lobby space, but behind the blend of colours and plant species lies a message about independence, the cultural wealth of the archipelago, the maritime character of North Jakarta, and the diversity of Indonesia’s tropical rainforest vegetation.
“The garden design presented for the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia carries the theme ‘Sovereign from the Maritime Gateway of North Jakarta’,” said Reina.
The concept, she said, was designed to depict the spirit of independence as well as North Jakarta’s identity as a coastal region and maritime gateway.
“We want to present an atmosphere that is not only beautiful to look at, but also has a story,” said Reina.
She said dozens of plant species were selected and harmoniously combined. The colours, shapes, and characteristics of each plant form part of a composition that depicts the spirit of independence and the natural wealth of Indonesia.
Reina mentioned that the presence of coconut and sea pandan, among others, serves as a strong representation of North Jakarta’s coastal character, while a variety of tropical plants present a picture of the archipelago’s vegetation wealth growing within Indonesia’s rainforest ecosystem.
The combination is then packaged into a colourful garden, so that anyone entering the office lobby can immediately feel the atmosphere of independence celebrations.
“We are enlivening the celebration of Indonesia’s Independence Day with a blend of beautiful and colourful plants,” said Reina.
She expressed hope that the design concept created can represent Indonesia’s pride, North Jakarta’s maritime identity, and the harmony between the culture and nature of the archipelago.
The garden arrangement, she continued, also serves as a simple way to bring the spirit of independence into public spaces, which is achieved not only through red-and-white ornaments but also through the natural beauty of Indonesia arranged into a visual story.
“From the maritime gateway of North Jakarta, the spirit of independence is conveyed through a simple language, namely the colours of plants, natural wealth, and love for Indonesia,” Reina said.
