Since early this year television viewers have seen a symbol on their TV screens marking the observance of the 50th anniversary of Indonesia's independence. Each television stations displays its own symbol.

The one on RCTI looks impressive. However, the symbol is not very appropriate as it bears the words 50 Indonesia Raya, as opposed to Republik Indonesia. As far as I know, Indonesia Raya is the name of our national anthem, which was sung for the first time on Oct. 28, 1928, 66 years ago. And Indonesia's independence was proclaimed on Aug. 17, 1945. Isn't it necessary to alter the symbol?
